Banana Time Guayaquil: Strengthening the Sector

The Ecuadorian banana sector is preparing to strengthen itself despite challenges, focusing on security, innovation, and sustainability. These are the pillars that will be discussed at 'Banana Time Guayaquil', according to Jorge Encalada, a prominent figure in the sector.

The Ecuadorian Banana Exporters Association (AEBE) will lead this important event that will bring together representatives from the banana sector of several Latin American countries. Ecuador, the world's leading banana exporter, after participating in the 'Fruit Attraction' fair in Madrid, celebrates this meeting to address various challenges facing the industry, such as low prices in Europe, logistical security, and regulations of destination markets.

José Antonio Hidalgo, executive director of AEBE, emphasized the importance of ensuring that prices in the European Union reflect efforts in sustainability and social responsibility. Significant advances were mentioned to strengthen sustainability and social responsibility standards in the sector.

The Ecuadorian Banana and Plantain Cluster demonstrated its commitment to sustainability, worker well-being, and commercial relations in previous events. Furthermore, investments aimed at improving security in farms and the logistics chain were highlighted.

The banana industry in Ecuador is an economic pillar, contributing more than $3 billion annually to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and generating over 250,000 direct jobs.

At 'Banana Time Guayaquil', which will take place from October 23 to 25, participation from delegates from Colombia and Costa Rica, among others, is expected. The event will focus on discussing issues such as security, innovation, and sustainability, with special attention to respecting the value of the product in the European Union and cooperation for the sustainability of the industry.

Issues such as phytosanitary threats, commercial strategies, and consumption trends in different key markets will be addressed. Current challenges will be analyzed in depth, highlighting the importance of cooperation and action for the future of the Ecuadorian banana sector.
