
As a result of armed clashes between rival gangs in the coastal province of Guayaquil, Ecuador, at least 22 people have died, and six others have been injured, local police reported. It was noted that the gangs used firearms and artillery during the clashes. Security agencies later began operations in 200 homes, arresting 12 suspects and seizing weapons and ammunition.
According to police information, two factions of the criminal gang - "Los Tiguerones Fenix" and "Los Tiguerones Iguanali" - are engaged in a rivalry in the region. Many victims have been implicated in various crimes, including drug trafficking, illegal possession of firearms and extortion.
