At least seven people died and 22 were injured in a bus crash on the Ventanas-Quevedo road in Los Ríos province, Ecuador. The bus overturned early Saturday, leading to tragic outcomes. Authorities report that traffic accidents are a leading cause of death in the country.

Today, Saturday, an interprovincial bus overturned in the El Lechugal sector, on the Ventanas-Quevedo road, in the coastal province of Los Ríos, in central Ecuador. As a result, seven people died and 22 were injured, according to local press reports.

The accident took place in the early hours of the morning, when the bus lost control and overturned, rolling several times on the road. According to the local newspaper "El Universo", 18 of the injured are adults and four are minors. The accident vehicle was heading from Machala, the capital of the province of El Oro, to the province of Manabí.

The Integrated Security Service ECU 911 in Los Ríos confirmed the traffic accident on the Ventanas-Quevedo road and coordinated the response with the Traffic Commission of Ecuador and the local Fire Department.

Authorities indicate that traffic accidents are one of the main causes of death in Ecuador, mainly attributed to excessive speed and lack of driving skills.
