González Challenges Noboa to Pre-Electoral Debate

The presidential candidate of correísmo, Luisa González, challenged President Daniel Noboa to a face-to-face debate before the first round of Ecuador's general elections on February 9. González, a candidate from the Citizen Revolution (RC), led by former President Rafael Correa, launched this challenge after not being paired with Noboa in the only debate among candidates due to being placed in different blocks by a draw.

"I would have expected to debate with President Noboa. It would be wonderful to debate with ideas, with figures, and with reality, because I invite citizens to contrast the figures given by Daniel Noboa yesterday," added the candidate. Noboa and González already faced each other in the second round of the extraordinary elections of 2023.

In an interview with Teleamazonas, González expressed: "If he accepts, I challenge him to a debate with Luisa González. He was not paired with me. I would have liked for us to be together." The candidate proposed the possibility of a debate between the two, as long as the National Electoral Council (CNE) allows it and Noboa agrees.

More than 13.7 million Ecuadorians are called to choose their national authorities for the period 2025-2029, including the Presidency, Vice Presidency, National Assembly parliamentarians, and representatives for Parliament. The second round is scheduled for February 13 if no candidate obtains 50% of the votes, or 40% with a lead of at least 10 percentage points over the rest.
