Ecuador Government Launches Fuel Subsidy for Transporters

Starting this Wednesday, April 15, the government begins the disbursement of a fuel subsidy for approximately 19,800 transporters affiliated with the platform. This measure aims to prevent an increase in public transportation fares in the country. This action is part of a plan announced by the Executive to contain the impact on service costs for users. The measure covers selective, collective, school, cargo, and fishing transport, as explained by the Minister of Government, Dinoska Montalvo. The objective is for this fuel subsidy to translate into price stability for the final consumer and the regular operation of the transportation system. Montalvo detailed that the disbursement is staggered, and cargo and tourism transport could join the platform starting Friday due to technical adjustments. The process is being carried out in conjunction with the Transit and Land Transport Authority (ATTT) and the Government Innovation Authority (AIG), with a verification and traceability system to ensure transparency in the benefit delivery. The minister also clarified that the benefit does not include digital platform transporters, as they do not have an operational certification under ATTT regulation. The government maintains that the mechanism seeks greater control, security, and transparency in the distribution of the fuel subsidy.
