Eleven people were killed and 20 others injured in Ecuador yesterday when a bus fell into a ravine near Muyito in Azuay province in the south of the country, according to rescue services. The service reported that 20 injured people were transported to various healthcare facilities in the area, noting that the bus veered off the road and fell into the ravine before catching fire. Road accidents are one of the main causes of death in Ecuador, with one person dying every four hours in a traffic accident, according to the National Transit Agency. In 2024, there were 21,220 traffic accidents in the country, resulting in approximately 2,300 deaths and 18,000 injuries, according to official statistics.
