Ecuador Imposes Tariffs on Mexican Goods

Ecuador decided to implement a 27 percent tariff on goods coming from Mexico. President Daniel Noboa explained that this measure aims to promote local industry and ensure fair trade between both countries. Noboa shared this decision through a statement, noting that this policy will remain in effect until a free trade agreement with Mexico is reached.

The Ecuadorian president argued that this measure responds to what he considers an "abuse" in trade relations with Mexico, highlighting Ecuador's position on trade integration. Noboa emphasized: "As we have demonstrated these days, the New Ecuador has always been open to trade integration, but not when there is abuse."

This step comes in a context of increasing trade tensions, particularly marked by the recent tariff impositions by the United States on Mexico and Canada. Additionally, it coincides with Mexico's achievement of postponing the implementation of such tariffs for one month.
